Coast Guard Searching For Passenger Overboard Carnival Elation

Sadly the search has been suspended for the overboard passenger. Thoughts with his family and friends during this very difficult time.

The United States Coast Guard is currently searching for a passenger who is overboard the Carnival Elation cruise ship in the Bahamas.

A search is underway for a 24-year old man who went overboard the Carnival Elation while it was heading towards its first port of call in the Bahamas. The passenger reportedly was seen going over the side of the ship from deck 11 which was captured on the ship’s CCTV footage.

The overboard occurred on Monday morning while the Fantasy-class vessel was around 15 miles southwest of Abaco, Bahamas at sea. The man’s wife reported him missing at 8:30 AM on Monday once the ship had arrived in Nassau. The Coast Guard was then notified at 11 AM so a search could begin. A sea and air search were launched which continues today.

The 70,300 gross ton Carnival Elation departed its homeport in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday, February 11 and Nassau, Bahamas is the first port of call on the itinerary. The ship will also be calling at Carnival Cruise Lines private island of half Moon Cay before arriving back at JAXPORT on February 16.
