A couple last week got a surprise from the Celebrity Equinox when it was meters away from their home in Port Everglades, Fort Lauderdale.
Local news in Florida is reporting of the Celebrity Cruise ship which came just several meters from hitting a couple’s house. The close encounter occurred while the large Celebrity Equinox was departing the port on March 3. Bill and Yasmine Todhunter are used to seeing vessels come and go but the ships don’t usually get so close! The couple posted the encounter on Facebook.
After the video was posted online the cruise line posted a reply to the Todhunters which stated “Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We have further looked into this matter. As Equinox departed on Friday, March 3, she was in her assigned channel at all times under the guidance of specialized local port pilots. The ship operated safely and did not put guests or crew at risk. We can also confirm the ship did not touch bottom.”
The 122,000 gross ton Celebrity Equinox was departing for an 11-day Caribbean cruise which had around 2,800 passengers onboard. Thankfully the ship did manage to move away from the property which overlooks the Port located on east coast of Florida.
