It has been a busy few days for the Carnival Vista, the newest and largest cruise ship in the fleet. The ship has just completed a 14-day transatlantic crossing which departed Barcelona, Spain on October 21.
The vessel arrived in style in New York on Thursday and since then the celebrations have put the ship in the limelight. An overnight gala was held including a concert for Operation Homefront military families. One of the highlights was a memorable performance by Country Music Association’s Female Vocalist of the Year and seven-time GRAMMY award-winning country music super star Carrie Underwood.
Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, said:
“Carnival Cruise Line carries more active and retired military personnel and I couldn’t think of a better way to introduce this spectacular vessel than by honoring and celebrating the sacrifices of our Armed Forces personnel”
“Deshauna is the ideal candidate to serve as Carnival Vista’s godmother, embodying the spirit of commitment and sacrifice of those who protect our freedoms each and every day.”
The ship was christened by godmother Miss USA Deshauna Barber. The godmother took festivities up a notch by initiating the traditional champagne smashing against the Carnival Vista’s hull. In addition to the concert, the festivities included overnight accommodations, meals, activities and entertainment for hundreds of military families.

Carnival Vista will sail two itineraries out of New York before ending up at its new homeport in Miami, Florida on November 27. The 133,500 gross ton ship will sail a range of year-round Caribbean cruises.
