Carnival UK is cutting hundreds of jobs in the UK due to the global pandemic which is hitting the cruise industry hard.
Carnival Corp Cuts Jobs
Carnival Corporation in the UK is to slash around 450 jobs at its headquarters in Southampton according to a report by the BBC. There are 1,600 working at the building and many of them are currently working from home due to the global pandemic.
A spokesman for the company said:
“Unfortunately like many businesses, Covid-19 has continued to impact our way of life.”
“It is necessary to make changes to our organisation to build a stable platform for the time we phase our ships back into service and for future growth.”
Apparently staff who will remain at the company are to take a 20 percent pay cut to help the cruise company ride these bad times. Carnival in the UK which operates P&O Cruises and Cunard has suspended all. Cunard Line has select sailing cancelled all the way to the beginning of September and P&O Cruises plans on resuming sailing on August 1.

The jobs which are going are in the office and crew members which are based at sea are not impacted. However, the cruise lines are currently repatriating the crew around the world and only keeping a limited number onboard for ship maintenance. This will help reduce costs and crew will join the ships again once cruises resume.
The Carnival offices in the UK are located in Southampton, Hampshire. Nicely placed near the cruise terminals where Carnival operated vessels are often based.
