Carnival Horizon which is currently the newest ship from Carnival Cruise Line has come to the rescue of seven fishermen on a small boat.
Carnival Cruise Ship Rescue
The Carnival ship came to the rescue of seven fishermen who were stranded on a small boat at around 6:30 on Friday evening. According to passengers onboard the large cruise ship the small boat had a damaged engine and was adrift off the coast of Haiti in the Caribbean.
Crew members first spotted the stranded boat and the captain immediately turned around. According to tweets, contact was made around 10 minutes later with the drifting boat.
The small boat apparently only had a small propeller which was broken along with bamboo oars. After contacting the Coast Guard the seven fishermen were eventually taken onboard the Carnival Horizon where they no doubt were provided with food and water.
The Carnival cruise ship was sailing back towards her homeport in Miami, Florida at the time. The ship’s final port of call was in Aruba the day before on June 6. Other calls included Curacao, Dominica Republic and Grand Turk as part of her 8-day southern Caribbean cruise.
The vessel will arrive back at PortMiami on Sunday, June 9 with the seven fishermen onboard. They will be handed over to authorities on arrival.
This is not the first time a Carnival cruise ship has come to the rescue in the Caribbean and definitely won’t be the last time. Last month the Carnival Paradise rescued a sailor from a sinking boat near Cozumel. In the month before that, the Carnival Fantasy rescued a total of 23 people who were adrift at sea on a damaged boat in the Caribbean.
Carnival Horizon is 133,500 gross tons and is currently the flagship with a guest capacity of over 3,900 at double occupancy. The ship is the second Vista-class and joined the fleet in 2018.
