The ship was constructed at the Fincantieri Monfalcone shipyard in Italy and went through a long process to finally joining the fleet in Spring 2018. Carnival Horizon departed on its maiden voyage from Barcelona, Spain on April 2, 2018, which was days after being delivered from the shipyard to the cruise line.
Carnival Horizon continued to sail a series of cruises in the Meditteranean with the final departure from Spain being a transatlantic voyage ending in New York on May 23, 2018. Once at the Big Apple, the new Carnival cruise ship celebrated its naming ceremony with godmother Queen Latifah.
