Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy will be on hand with a critical role in the iconic Times Square “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest” celebration, lighting the magnificent ball that marks the coming of the new year for thousands. The event will also kick off the cruise line’s 2023 advertising campaign to urge everyone to “Choose Fun Together” with a Carnival cruise.
Carnival Cruise Line in Times Square
Carnival Cruise Line will be well represented in Times Square on December 31, not only with advertisements for the cruise line’s new “Choose Fun Together” advertising campaign, but also with Christine Duffy and Carnival partner Emeril Lagasse teaming up to light the iconic ball as it dazzles the city to ring in the new year.
“As we head into 2023, we have even more reasons to celebrate and so it’s appropriate that America’s cruise line be part of America’s most iconic New Year’s celebration,” said Duffy.
The New Year’s Eve Ball that Duffy and Lagasse will light is a geodesic sphere measuring 12 feet (3.65 meters) in diameter, and weighing 11,875 pounds (5,386 kilograms). It is covered with a total of 2,688 Waterford Crystal triangles, hundreds of which have been designed with meaningful symbolism representing love, wisdom, goodwill, happiness, and other positive qualities.
A total of 32,256 LEDs light up the ball, which is capable of a palette of more than 16 million colors. Duffy and Lagasse will light the ball at 6 p.m., at which time it will be raised atop One Times Square in preparation for the night’s festivities.
Duffy will also join the Times Square New Year’s Eve host on the Countdown Stage during the 10 p.m. hour not only in preparation for the pinnacle moment of the celebration, but also to share exciting details about Carnival Venezia, which will be homeported from the Manhattan Cruise Terminal beginning in mid-June.
The Manhattan Cruise Terminal is just 1.4 miles (2.25 kilometers) west of Times Square, and the new-to-Carnival ship will bring “Carnival Fun, Italian Style” to the Big Apple with itineraries to Bermuda, the Eastern Caribbean, the Southern Caribbean, and Canada/New England.
At the same time revelers in New York are enjoying the festivities in Times Square, nearly 100,000 guests aboard Carnival Cruise ships will also be celebrating with onboard activities that include massive deck parties at midnight, balloon drops in ships’ atriums to ring in the new year, and other special events to ring in 2023.
Carnival’s New Message for 2023
Guests have a great deal to look forward to from Carnival Cruise Line in 2023. “We’ve got two new ships joining the fleet next year, including the start of year-round service fromย New Yorkย in June onย Carnival Venezia,” said Duffy.
“Then we’ll end the year withย Carnival Jubileeย arriving in Galveston. We’re looking forward to continuing this exciting period of growth and building on the success of the past year.”
The cruise line’s new advertising campaign, “Choose Fun Together” will emphasize different ways families and friends can come together aboard Carnival’s fleet all around the world, with amazing itineraries, diverse ships to enjoy, and onboard experiences like no other.
Billboards for the new campaign will be showcased around Times Square, highlighting how “we are our most fun selves when we choose fun, together.”
The new advertising campaign will officially launch on December 25, and will be promoted not only on billboards and network television, but also through social media and streaming services.
