Carnival Cruise Line Relaxes Cancellation Policy Due to Coronavirus Fears

Carnival Cruise Line has relaxed its cancellation policy as the coronavirus continues to impact the industry and many are in fear of traveling.

Updated Carnival Cancellation Policy

To provide further flexibility to thousands of Carnival Cruise Line guests the cruise line has made further changes to its policy to relax the rules. This should now help cruisers move forward with their plans with more confidence.

For those who booked on or before March 10, 2020 and sailing between June 1, 2020 and September 30, 2020 will receive the following incentives if they keep their booking as normal:

  • US$50, per cabin, for 2 – 5-day sailings
  • US$100, per cabin, for 6-day sailings and longer

The onboard credit will automatically be applied to the Sail & Sign account and Carnival has posted there is no need to call them. No doubt this will help reduce the huge increase in calls they are receiving due to the current situation of the coronavirus.

There is also a policy in place for those who choose to cancel their booking with Carnival Cruise Line. Guests can cancel 30 days before the departure date and any cancellation charges shall be held for a future cruise credit which needs to be used within one year of the original sailing.

Fly2Fun reservation funds used will be included in the future cruise credit. Any other pre-purchased packages through the cruise line such as shore excursions, specialty dining and more will be refunded automatically back on the original form of payment.

For cruisers who booked on sailings departing March 1, 2020 through May 31, 2020 may cancel three days before departure. There will also be incentives with onboard credit if it’s decided to keep the cruise as it is. Guests will receive $50 for 2-day cruises, $100 for 3-4 day cruises, $150 for 5-day cruises, $200 for 6-days and above along with $300 for Europe cruises.

This policy update comes as the cruise line has been inundated with calls with people canceling their cruise vacations, making changes or simply asking questions. Concerns are spreading across the industry as cruise ships are being denied or delayed at ports and guests don’t want to undergo quarantine as they’ve seen on Princess cruise ships.

Carnival Cruise Line does have strict health measures in place to make sure guests and crew members remain safe. You can check those measures prior to embarkation and during the cruise right here. As of today, the cruise line has also implemented further checks at the Port of Galveston including “Screening the temperature of all personnel that interacts with cruise guests.”

According to John Hopkins University, the United States currently has 1,281 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 36 deaths. The numbers continue to rise and cruise lines are working with authorities to introduce even further measures including any quarantine procedures.
