Further details have been released on the Grand Central Atrium that’s featured on Carnival’s new Mardi Gras cruise ship debuting in February 2021. The cruise line is going above and beyond with its new transformational three-deck high concept. This impressive space is part of Mardi Gras’ six themed zones.

Glenn Aprile who is Carnival’s director of new build product and development is part of the design team, that came up with the idea which is not just to be functional but also have the wow factor when guests first board the vessel.

Aprile said:

“Building an atrium into the side of a cruise ship is no easy task and it was a total team effort between our new build management team, engineers, designers, and hotel and entertainment teams to create a space that is as beautiful as it is functional.”

During the day the atrium venue will be what you expect, a place where guests can relax, enjoy a drink, and watch or listen to music. There will also be plenty of fun activities guests can take part in during the day.

Aprile noted:

“with a ship as innovative as Mardi Gras we wanted to create a multi-functional dining and entertainment space that guests can enjoy day and night, while at the same time providing an intuitive way to get around the ship and creating  a dramatic centerpiece that is worthy of our most innovative ship. Grand Central provides all that and more.  We are extremely pleased with the results thus far.”

There will be a multi-level Grand View Bar which offers guests stunning views of the ocean and over looking Grand Central. The space will have awe-inspiring touches such as a virtual waterfall and translucent panels. There’s also a Center Stage Bar on the main level.

Noted Aprile:

“We put the engineers and designers to the test here and our teams have taken everything we’ve learned about shipbuilding and interior design to create a stunning, comfortable and functional environment that truly sets Grand Central apart from other shipboard venues. With its transformation from daytime relaxation to nighttime entertainment, Grand Central is unlike anything that’s ever been done on a cruise ship before and our guests are going to love it.”

Java Blue will be nearby offering coffee and a fresh bakery menu just like other Carnival ships in the fleet. The popular Cherry On Top venue will be near where guests can purchase candies. The casino and gift shops are also just a few steps away.
