Biggest Cruise Ship In The World Begins Sailing From Barcelona

Harmony of the Seas, the world’s biggest cruise ship has set off on its first voyage from Barcelona, Spain. This marks the beginning of the ship’s inaugural summer season in the Mediterranean.

The 227,000 gross ton vessel was given a send off by Royal Caribbean International’s President and CEO, Michael Bayley. The ship departed its new home port in Barcelona on June 7 for a special 5-night cruise. Harmony of the Seas will then arrive back on June 12 ready to depart again on the same day for regular service, even though no cruise on this huge ship is regular! The ship is sailing at full capacity and calling at Rome (Civitavecchia) and Naples, Italy.

The ship combines the distinct seven-neighborhood concept that Royal Caribbean’s Oasis class of ships are known for with some of the most modern and groundbreaking vacation amenities, including the Ultimate Abyss, the tallest slide at sea with a 10-story plunge; robot bartenders at The Bionic Bar, powered by Makr Shakr; interior staterooms with virtual balconies that provide real-time views of the destinations, and VOOM – the fastest internet at sea – so that guests can stay connected, stream their favorite entertainment and share their adventures with family and friends back at home.

Harmony of the Seas’ inaugural summer season will offer seven-night Western Mediterranean itineraries, showcasing Europe’s most popular destinations – Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca, Spain; Provence (Marseilles), France; Florence/Pisa, Rome and Naples, Italy. The adventure-packed ship will reposition to the U.S. in November, where she will make Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, FL her permanent homeport.
