Best Not To Jet Ski Near A Cruise Ship Channel!

There was a near miss on Saturday when a Carnival cruise ship came within feet of two jet skiers in the water.

On Saturday afternoon, March 11th as the large Carnival Magic was departing Port Canaveral, Florida for a Caribbean cruise it came within feet of two jet skiers. The two women were enjoying the thrill on water near where lots of vessels enter and depart the port.

For some reason as posted on the Canaveral Pilots site one of the boaters fell off the jet ski and when she tried to get back on it flipped over. Both boaters were then stranded in the water in direct line of the Carnival Magic which was departing at the time. Luckily Capt. Doug Brown came to the rescue and managed to get them on board his small sheriff boat before they were hit by the large cruise ship.

It was all caught on camera by a passenger who was on the ship. Worry can be heard by fellow passengers as the Carnival Magic got closer and came within feet. If Capt. Doug Brown was not on the sene we really don’t want to think what would have happened.

Watch Close Encounter:

The 130,000 gross ton Carnival Magic was starting a 7-night Eastern Caribbean cruise and is scheduled to arrive back in Port Canaveral on March 18. Now that this video has pretty much gone viral within the cruising community and the world we’re pretty sure there will be no more Jet Skiers in the channel.

Why are we posting about this? Watch the footage and don’t repeat! Never do any kind of water sports near cruise ship channels, in fact, don’t even go near as the currents could become too strong.
