A baby boy has been born onboard the 2,640 passenger Queen Mary 2 while at sea. The 37 week pregnant Johanna from Germany was rushed to the ship’s medical center with help from her brother after her water broke. Queen Mary 2’s doctor was on hand to deliver the baby on Saturday night as the large vessel was approaching Brooklyn, New York.
The newly born Benjamin Brooklyn was taken to New York Methodist Hospital once the vessel arrived at Red Hook cruise terminal Brooklyn, New York at around 6 am on Sunday. The baby arrived 3 weeks early and is the first ever to be born on Queen Mary 2. This is the third child for Johanna and she has told local media her newborn is doing great. As Benjamin Brooklyn was born in United States waters he is an American citizen.
The 150,000 gross tons Queen Mary 2 was coming to an end of a transatlantic cruise which departed Southampton, UK on January 10. The ship is currently sailing a world cruise which will arrive back at Southampton in May.
