It was just last month When Fred Olsens Balmoral was struck
by a huge 50 foot wave and now the cruise ship has been hit by an outbreak of
norovirus. There is more than 200 people ill and about 50 passengers quarantined
in their cabins reports say. With more than 10 percent of the 1,846 people
experiencing symptoms, the ship was actually refused entry to the Cape Verde
Islands.
Balmoral is currently on an 18-night Canary Islands and West
Africa cruise that departed at end of January. It's unusual for a ship to be
prevented from coming into port because of a norovirus outbreak because any
affected people would not be allowed ashore. To make up for the missed port,
Fred. Olsen has added an extra port of call to the cruise itinerary.
Passengers confined to their cabins do have a small
consolation. The cruise line is compensating passengers, at the daily rate, for
days they're not allowed to venture outside their staterooms. Whats next to hit
this ship!!!
